Before we explain the courses, try solving these…
4319.763 + 2863.29 – 2617.2987 + 257.013 = ?
53896 x 47329 = ?
368231 ÷ 421 = ?
Did you pick up a pen-paper or use a calculator?
Now, if you were told that these have to be solved without using any external aid, you would probably laugh and shun the effort or take a long time to solve. Can you imagine an eight year old child, solving these without any external aid in less than 30 seconds?
Yes, this is the power that a child obtains when he/she pursues our courses. Not only this, our courses lead to his/her Total Brain Development that further augment his/her concentration, focus, reasoning, reflexes, positive attitude and bring about All-round personality development. Scientific observations have established that maximum brain development takes place only till the age of 14-15 years.
Hence whatever happens in the early years of a child decides his future. To foster Total Brain Development, Mind Matrix is conducting two robust courses for children of different age groups.
Kids today have more access to computing devices than ever before. As their dependence on these devices is increasing, the ability to calculate mentally is decreasing. The modern world distractions have also been causing poor concentration among children albeit they are born intelligent.
‘Abacus Plus’ is the most fundamental & comprehensive course for students in the age-group 6 – 12 for enhancing their mental capabilities as well as focus and thus ensuring Total Brain Development. The ‘Abacus’ is used as a tool for brain development through which the child not only improves understanding and appreciation of numbers but also his/her performance in all the subjects of study and as well as activities. It enhances the child’s confidence along with enhanced mental abilities. The development that takes place in the mind of the child helps the child throughout life. The ‘plus’ factor is a range of added activities that activates different faculties of child’s brain, making it a comprehensive brain development program. The width and depth of such activities stretch with progression through different levels. The program is conducted in 8 stages/levels and the duration of each stage is 12-13 weeks. At the end of each stage, an examination is conducted. On clearing that the student advances to the next higher stage. The various levels are – ‘Alpha’, ‘Beta’, ‘Gamma’, ‘Delta’, ‘Epsilon’, ‘Zeta’, ‘Eta’ and ‘Theta’.
What is Abacus ?
Abacus is a Latin word that has its origins in the Greek words abax or abakon (meaning "table" or "tablet") which in turn, possibly originated from the Semitic (Arabian) word abq, meaning "sand". The abacus, also called a counting frame, is a calculating tool used primarily in parts of Asia for performing arithmetic processes. Its origin dates back to the period 2700 – 2300 BC in Mesopotamian civilization in the form of Sumerian Abacus. The abacus as we know it today, appeared (was chronicled) circa 1200 A.D. in China; in Chinese, it is called suan-pan. Circa 1600 A.D., use and evolution of the Chinese abacus was begun by the Japanese via Korea. In Japanese, the abacus is called soroban. The 1/4 (one bead on the upper deck and four beads on the lower deck) abacus, a style preferred today, appeared circa 1930. First century sources, such as the Abhidharmakosa describe the knowledge and use of abacus in India. Around the 5th century, Indian clerks were already finding new ways of recording the contents of the Abacus. Hindu texts used the term shunya (zero) to indicate the empty column on the abacus.
Why Abacus ?
Our brain has two parts – the Left Brain & the Right Brain. Interestingly, it is the right hand movements and activities which activate our Left Brain as do the left hand movements for Right Brain. Since we use one of our hands more than the other, one side of the brain does not get as activated as the other. This is an obstacle on the road of Total Brain development. When children use both hands to move the sharp edges of the abacus beads for small and large arithmetic calculations, the quick communication between hands and brain stimulates brain cells while promoting quick, balanced and total brain development. In addition to speed & accuracy in mental calculations, the program helps build the child’s ambidexterity, memory and concentration that enable the child to outperform in overall studies, co-curricular activities and also the extra-curricular activities. Scientific analyses have demonstrated the effectiveness of abacus training in improving the following six abilities:
- Ability to concentrate (Concentration)
- Ability to visualize and to be inspired (Inspiration)
- Ability to memorize (Memorization)
- Ability to observe attentively (Insight)
- Ability to process information (Information processing)
- Ability to listen and read quickly (Speed reading and listening)
Velocity Maths is an academic enrichment program designed for highly motivated learners whose parents understand the importance of maths excellence. Inspired by the wisdom of the Vedas and weaved with the modern day techniques, Velocity Maths has connected the best of two worlds to create a program that meets the needs of the most driven children.
We are a group of educators, academicians and, most importantly, parents who are on a mission to help forge the children of today into the leaders of tomorrow. The curriculum mainly covers the Vedic Techniques along with the modern day techniques derived from various continents across centuries. This curriculum boosts logic, reasoning and critical thinking skills, so Velocity Maths kids can reach their full potential.
What is vedic maths ?
Vedic maths, simply put, is an approach to mathematics that allows children to perform calculations mentally with great accuracy, simplicity, and speed. For your child, it means having an advantage in mathematics and logic that will help him/her to excel in the classroom and beyond. The term "Vedic" refers to the ancient Indian system of mathematics that originated from one of the four Vedas – “Atharva Veda”. This wonderful method has been re-introduced to the world by Swami Bharati Krisna Tirtha ji Mahaharaj (1884 – 1960), Shankaracharya of Goverdhan Math, Puri. He reconciled the lost formulae from the writings of "Atharwa Veda" and wrote them in the form of Sixteen Sutras and thirteen sub-sutras. This system is not a new trendy way of teaching maths; it is a system that is as old as numbers themselves. The Vedic system is deeply rooted in mathematical logic, trigonometry, calculus and algorithms. By learning Vedic maths, your child will have an understanding of the very foundation of mathematics.
Why Vedic Maths ?
Even the most complex maths is based on certain simple principles. The Vedic system allows children to use these principles to simplify a maths problem to a level that they can master. Mind Matrix uses Vedic maths as a fresh way of learning invaluable maths concepts that translate to the quantitative skills necessary to succeed in today's global economy. Getting a firm grasp of these concepts early in life is the key to making the most of your child's potential. With a curriculum that understands kids, maths is fun at Mind Matrix. By engaging learners through the use of our interactive program, we are able to introduce challenging material to our students and help them build mental agility, tenacity, perseverance and concentration skills.
